The economic environment seems to be in a continued state of uncertainty. With this uncertainty many business owners have become increasingly busy running the day to day operation of their business, which leaves them little time deal with all the other important aspect of their business. Even though this economic uncertainty is all around us, I have had the opportunity to work with a large number of companies that are seeing great success in a wide range of industries. In evaluating the reasons for these businesses’ successes one common theme has emerged, they are not only focusing on the day-to-day operation of their business but on all aspect of their business, from their strategic planning to their anticipated business succession, to even making sure the corporate documents are properly updated. With this knowledge Cook Martin Poulson has put together a critical issues guide to help business owner look beyond the day-to-day grind. We have put this on our website at https://cookmartin.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/critical_checklist.pdf. As you utilize this to help find areas to improve it is important to follow through on these improvements. Those companies that I have worked with that have seen great success in these uncertain times have not only made it a priority to spot the improvement areas but also put plans in place to improve these areas and track their improvement.

John is our quarterback of the Salt Lake office. If he isn’t passing a tax return to a senior accountant he is probably handing off a 401(k) assignment to the employee benefit department. Like all good team leaders, his influence at Cook Martin Poulson is felt in a variety of ways.
